Today, we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Taylor.
Hi Olivia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I remember the first time I got my makeup (of course, before that, I stole my mom’s). It was my 12th birthday, and my mom had given me two pallets, one for hazel eyes and one for green. Keep in mind these had only a few shades back then. She sat with me and taught me to apply my makeup and work with my features.
From there, that love for makeup continued to grow throughout the years! I began watching YouTubers when I got ready for school and tried to follow along with their makeup routines. As I got older, friends needed makeup done for dances, and I was there, ready with my brush in hand. Eventually, those friends began getting married and would ask me to do their makeup, trusting me on their biggest day.
As my skill and passion grew, I decided to step out, take a chance, and make my business public with an Instagram page. My business has continued to grow through word of mouth and social media. I’m so thankful for the brides and women who have chosen me to be a part of some of the most important days of their lives.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest obstacle is juggling everything I have been entrusted with. I have a wonderful husband and two beautiful children to care for, ages 3 and 7 months, along with nannying during the week and managing my makeup business. Wearing all of these different hats can become exhausting at times.
Thankfully, I have a husband who is also my biggest cheerleader and helper.
He reminds me of my faith and that my true strength and joy aren’t found merely in the things I have been entrusted with but in who has entrusted them to me. My belief in Jesus gives me the strength to move forward in faith, knowing that I am not alone even though, at times, it may feel overwhelming to juggle all of life’s challenges (blessings).
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?
I have been growing and working on my business for over five years. I specialize in makeup, from editorial to glam to bridal. I’d say my favorite specialty is being a bridal makeup artist. There is nothing quite like the energy on a wedding day.
Everyone is joyfully expectant to see the bride marry the love of her life. The reveal after the makeup is done and the dress is on is one of the most special moments. What sets me apart from others is that I do it all. I am the one you’re emailing, the one answering your DM’s, and the one making sure that everything is ready and perfect for the girls I work with, whether a photo shoot or a wedding.
I want readers to know that I am so invested in giving my clients the best experience, I want people to leave feeling better about themselves, and more confident than when they walked in. I am doing more than just makeup; I’m building relationships with the people with whom I have the honor of working.
What changes do you expect to see in your work and the industry over the next five to ten years?
Hopefully, in the next 5-10 years, I will continue to grow my brand. Never underestimate good skin. You see trends like “glass skin” taking over the runways right now, and I think that will trickle down to the consumer.
Natural skin with a healthy glow and creative eye looks will always run the industry. My dream is to work closely with a makeup brand or as a celebrity makeup artist.
