Meet Jayd Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayd Williams.

Jayd Williams

Hi Jayd, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a portrait photographer based out of Kansas City, Missouri. I’ve been taking photos for the majority of my life, including my time on the high school yearbook staff as a photographer and editor. My photography journey is deeply rooted in my family’s tradition of capturing and celebrating every moment, big and small. The pivotal moment came during the pandemic when I decided to turn my hobby into a business. Launching my photography business during such uncertain times was daunting, but it was also gratifying. I poured my heart and soul into every shoot, whether it’s a wedding, a family portrait, or a milestone event; I strive to capture the beauty of life from my unique perspective. Last year, I leaped to pursue photography full-time, and it has been an exhilarating journey ever since. Sharing my passion with others and witnessing their joy as they relive their memories through my work is incredibly fulfilling.

Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting my photography business has been both a smooth and challenging journey. I firmly believe that when something is meant for you, the path becomes more apparent, and God aligns things in your favor! Doors have opened for me in ways I never could have imagined, and I’m grateful for every opportunity that has come my way. However, it’s also important to acknowledge the learning curve that comes with entrepreneurship. Venturing into the world of business ownership is a whole new territory for me, and there’s a lot to navigate. From mastering the technical aspects of photography to managing the ins and outs of running a business, there’s always something new to learn. I wouldn’t label these challenges as struggles but as valuable learning experiences. Each obstacle I encounter becomes an opportunity for growth and development. I’m constantly honing my skills, refining my processes, and seeking new ways to improve. It’s a journey of continuous learning and adaptation, but I embrace it wholeheartedly because I know it’s all part of building something meaningful and sustainable.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As of now, I offer a wide range of services, including weddings, births, family portraits, and more. While I currently cater to various photography needs, I’m considering narrowing it down to maternity, birth, and family photography only. One of the aspects I cherish most about my job is the relationship I build with my clients. Whether it’s a first-time parent, a couple exchanging vows, or a family coming together, I strive to create a comfortable and supportive environment where they can be themselves. Witnessing the transformation in my clients’ demeanor during and after the shoot is incredibly rewarding, and it’s those moments that remind me why I love what I do. While delivering exceptional photographs is undoubtedly important, what sets me apart is my commitment to making a meaningful impact beyond the images themselves. I want my clients to walk away from their experience with more than just photographs—they should leave feeling empowered and loving themselves.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned along my journey as not only a photographer but as a person is embracing my unique identity and strengths. In a field filled with countless talented photographers, it’s easy to fall into the trap of comparison and self-doubt. I used to scrutinize my work against others, wondering if I was good enough or if I measured up to specific standards. However, through experience and reflection, I’ve realized that there is no one else out there quite like me. Each photographer brings their perspective, style, and personality to their craft, making this industry so rich and diverse. Instead of trying to emulate someone else’s success or conform to a specific mold, I’ve learned to embrace what makes me unique. My clients choose me not because I replicate someone else’s work but because of who I am and the value I bring to the table and I love that for me.
