Today we’d like to introduce you to Bailey Roberts.

Bailey Roberts

Hi Bailey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
From a young age, my fascination with creativity knew no bounds. In my earliest years, I was enamored with various artistic pursuits, from experimenting with beauty products on a favorite Barbie to emphatically embracing any opportunity to express myself through drawing, painting, singing, and more. As I grew, my artistic endeavors expanded to encompass other mediums, including fashion, beauty, interior design, and photography. Initially drawn toward graphic design, I embarked on a promising path, working alongside my father in his design business and attending classes. However, it became evident that I yearned for a different platform to channel my creative energies.

Consequently, I decided to enroll at Paul Mitchell, a choice immensely pivotal and rewarding for my career. Following my education, I secured a position at Chop Tops that opened doors to further opportunities, eventually leading me to pursue booth rental locally at Hairpins. Within this dynamic environment, I honed my craft and drew inspiration from the iconic groovy styles of the 60s and 70s. My repertoire behind the chair includes an affinity for crafting shags, mullets, coppers, and lived-in blondes, all while fostering an environment where individuals can momentarily escape the pressures of reality. I strive to create a sanctuary in my peaceful studio that welcomes all. Presently situated at Wicked Studios in the historic West Bottoms, I am privileged to collaborate with a diverse collective of fellow creatives. Beyond my professional pursuits, I still find time to scour for vintage treasures and indulge in craft projects alongside my cherished pets and my partner, Macs. My tendency for exploration extends to acquiring new hobbies each month, a sentiment encapsulated by Dolly Parton’s clever advice: “Don’t get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.”

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
While my journey has largely been characterized by smooth sailing, transitioning from a commission-based salon to a booth rental arrangement during a pandemic posed a challenge for me. The uncertainty surrounding this shift terrified me, but I found the courage to embrace this newfound freedom with unwavering support and encouragement from friends and mentors. Their guidance and belief in my abilities were instrumental in shaping my career trajectory.

Thanks for sharing that. So, next, you can tell us more about your business.
I specialize in cutting hair into trendy shags and classic mullets. My expertise extends to the intricate art of coloring, where I create vibrant copper hues and stunning shades of blonde. My love for color theory allows me to craft personalized styles that complement skin tones and individual personalities. Whether reviving a classic style or exploring the latest hair trends, I take pride in delivering exceptional results that leave my clients confident and beautiful.

Who else deserves credit for your story?
Where do I begin? Countless individuals have played integral roles in nurturing my growth and success. Foremost among them are my clients, who have stood by my side for over seven years and evolved from patrons to cherished friends. From the outset of my career transition, two remarkable individuals emerged with guidance and encouragement: Sadie Rucker and Morgan Willows.

During a pivotal moment in my professional journey, Sadie imparted invaluable insights and wisdom, guided me through the industry’s intricacies, and provided unwavering support. Her mentorship bolstered my confidence and instilled in me a profound sense of resilience and determination.

Equally instrumental in shaping my career trajectory was Morgan Willows. From the moment I crossed the threshold of Hairpins, Morgan welcomed me with open arms, recognizing the apprehension I felt amidst the uncertainty of change. I blossomed at her salon, honing my skills and refining my artistic vision. Morgan’s belief in my ability was a constant source of inspiration, empowering me to embrace new challenges and seize emerging opportunities with confidence and poise. Her support and mentorship not only catalyzed my professional growth but also created a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect that transcended the confines of the salon.

Jess Hall, the visionary behind Wicked Studios, welcomed me into a vibrant community of artists with unparalleled warmth and enthusiasm. Her passion for fostering a collaborative environment where artists can thrive is palpable in every facet of Wicked Studios, from its eclectic decor to its unwavering commitment to artistic innovation. As an astute entrepreneur and creative visionary, Jess has provided me a platform to showcase my talents and served as a steadfast ally and confidante. Her endless creativity has inspired me to push the boundaries of my artistic expression. Her support and encouragement have strengthened my confidence and resolve during moments of uncertainty.

I extend my deepest gratitude to my family and friends, whose unyielding support has been the cornerstone of my endeavors. They were my first clients and continue to be my biggest cheerleaders.
