Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonia Falcon.

Sonia Falcon

Hi Sonia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I took a film photography class my junior year of high school and instantly fell in love with it. I remember spending hours in the dark room processing film and carrying that camera with me everywhere! Then on my eighteenth birthday my parents gifted me a beginner digital camera kit and I started taking senior sessions here and there to practice. Being a first gen child, I felt a lot of pressure to be someone or do something but I wasn’t really sure at the time what I wanted to so I enlisted in the military for six years and put photography behind me. Fast forward several years, I was working as a CNA for a hospital while being a first time mom to a 3 month old when the pandemic hit and everything shut down. I decided to quit my job, stay home full time with my son. That first year I spent a lot of time debating if I should get back into photography and make it my career or take a safe route and go back to college and get a degree. With the encouragement of my friends and family I took a leap of faith and jumped right back into it. Since then, i’ve met so many amazing people, learner more about my passion, invested in myself and made what I love into a career. I am appreciative of my parents who support me in anything I do and allowed me to find my passion without pushing me to peruse something else, and my husband who is not only my second shooter for weddings and events but also helps me so much behind the scenes, helped me build this business from the ground up. I have so much left to accomplish, perfect and learn as a photographer but that just makes me so much more excited for what the future holds for SoniaFalcon Photos.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
At the beginning when I first started this journey professionally, I noticed I would compare my work to other photographers and think I wasn’t good enough or could never be where they are career wise. Once I stopped doing that and learned that everyone has different styles I felt more confident on posting my work and promoting myself. Also, mom guilt. Being a photographer means most of your weekends are booked and busy or you spend hours sitting on your laptop editing albums or answering inquires. Learning how to manage my time being a mom, wife and small business owner was something that I struggled with a lot in the beginning.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a photographer who specializes in all types of photography from weddings to newborn sessions to boudoir, you name it. Being able to have such a wide range in what I specialize in and being able to do it all is something that I believe sets me apart. I’m really proud of the fact that my husband and I have become a photography team when it comes to anything related to the business or when it comes to shooting weddings and events. I love being able to work with him and capture these super important moments for other people to treasure and keep forever.

What does success mean to you?
Success to me is being able to say that you genuinely love what you do every single day.
