Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Backs.
Hi Ashley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My mother was in the wedding business, and I grew up setting up speakers and lugging gear all over the city to DJ weddings. I went to hair school to never have to work at another wedding again. Luckily, God has a sense of humor. After graduating from hair school and briefly working in a salon, it was glaringly clear that I would never be able to show up to the same building day in and day out. I spent my last salon check (and employee discount) filling my makeup kit and hitting the road. Friends were getting married and kept calling asking if I could help, so I did. Then I fell in love. I was already a sucker for a good rom-com, and the appeal of being part of someone’s love story was too much to take. Nick and I had recently gotten married, and I could not fathom doing any of this without him. Needing a place to bring my brides and have trials, I opened a salon in Liberty, MO. Quickly realizing that color processing and bridal gowns do not go together, I immediately started looking for a bridal-only spot to host our bridal team.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was hiring bad coaches instead of figuring things out myself, homeschooling, and working full-time.
As you know, we’re big fans of Hello Lovely. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with the brand?
Hello Lovely is full of heart and soul. From the artists to the clients we serve. Women support women through all the best and worst parts of their lives—marriages, maternity, life, and then some. We can start that walk with women on our bridal team and then serve them with excellent relationships for years in our salons. It has been so incredible to see the impact that it has had on so many people! I am most proud of my team. Every time I think about what we are working for and how we got here, it is 1000% because of them. The effort, commitment, and skill they put into every client is beyond comparison. It is truly an honor to consistently work with a group of women who want the best for the people they serve and their team. I am more proud of the team we have created than of anything else I’ve done with my career. We are an on-location hair and makeup company serving the entire Kansas City metro for weddings, headshots, branding, commercials, private lessons, and anything you want to look your best for.
